 An Evening with Bach

All Saints’ Episcopal Church

209 West 27th Street, Austin, Texas

August 28th at 7:00 pm

Megan Meisenbach, Flutist; Stephanie Prewitt, Mezzo-soprano; Gregory Eaton, Harpsichordist

Join this internationally known trio of musicians, Megan Meisenbach, Stephanie Prewitt and Gregory Eaton for a 7:00 PM concert evening August 28 at All Saints Church at 209 West 27th for some of the most beautiful of Bach’s chamber pieces.

On the program are three of Bach’s Sonatas for Flute and Clavier and two arias from the Cantatas for mezzo-soprano with flute obbligato Leget euch and Wer Gott bekennt, heard in the lovely ambiance of All Saints Episcopal Church (1899) a Texas Landmark historical building. (http://www.allsaints-austin.org/)

First prizewinner of the National Flute Association’s Chamber Music Competition and winner of the National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalist Award, Megan Meisenbach has toured internationally and in 26 states as a soloist and chamber musician.  The New York Times hailed her flute playing as "assured, forthright, with a clear appealing flute tone; Megan Meisenbach's interpretations had an air of authority and invariably commanded respect.” (http://www.harpfluteduo.com ).

Stephanie Prewitt’s performances have ranged from the medieval to modern works and her honors include an Austin Critics Table Award.  She has sung both internationally and in the United States.  Locally, Ms Prewitt has been active as a soloist with such groups as the Texas Early Music Project, La Follia-Austin Baroque, the Victoria Bach Festival, and New Texas Music Works.  The American Statesman’s Michael Huebner wrote:

“ Singular kudos go to mezzo-soprano Stephanie Prewitt, whose elocution and bell-like clarity fit gracefully into the Baroque aesthetic…and whose heartfelt expression...left you wanting more.”             (http://stephanieprewitt.com )

Gregory Eaton is the Choirmaster and Organist at All Saints’ and conducts the two choirs, hand bell choir and plays organ. He was Director of Music and Organist of St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn Heights from 1993 to 2014 where he played weekly recitals with more than 600 works from more than five centuries of organ repertoire. Godspell & Bernstein's Mass

In a course offered through the Mercer School of Theology, Gregory is examining two musical works of 1971: Godspell by John Michael Tebelak & Stephen Schwartz, and Mass by Leonard Bernstein with additional lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.  The course examines the ways in which both of these works might raise issues for people of faith, especially those living in our current secular age.  The course meets at 7 pm on six Wednesdays: February 12 & 26, March 12 & 26, and April 9 & 23, and takes place at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 157 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights.
